The City Accommodation

Explore

The University of Leicester has a diverse portfolio of accommodation, from purpose-built residential buildings to converted Edwardian houses, across our two sites The Village and The City.

Both The Village and The City are for New Undergraduates, Undergraduate Returners, Postgraduates and Mature Students. But you'll always be split into flats with other people on the same course type as you (e.g. if you are a New Undergraduate, you will definitely be placed with other New Undergraduate students, not necessarily on the same course as you).

The Village

The Village is a self-contained student community approximately 2 miles from the main campus. The Village is made up of purpose-built blocks and large converted houses with social spaces, sports facilities, study rooms and a bar on site.

Most students choose to travel using our free University Shuttle Bus service, or cycle to university.

The City

The City is a made up of a variety of building, and all the sites are within walking distance of the University campus and city centre for access to study spaces, sports facilities and food outlets. Each accommodation also has its own social space!

Most students choose to walk from their accommodation with The City blocks being around 10 minutesā€™ walk from campus.

Residence Life

We have a dedicated Residence Life team who support your transition into university and run regular events to make sure you feel at home and make friends.

Support

Coming to Leicester to study might be your first time living away from home. Our Residence Life Team is here to provide a supportive and welcoming environment from the moment you arrive. This is what makes living in halls different from living in a shared house or private accommodation.

Much of student life is about independence, but that doesnā€™t mean you wonā€™t need a little help sometimes. All members of the Residence Life Team in halls are all trained to provide advice and support on a wide range of issues. Just call, email or drop-in to your site reception any time day or night.

Events Programme

We host regular events and activities to make sure you feel at home and make new friends in accommodation. These range from cinema nights and coffee nights to parties and summer festivals. Check out all the upcoming events in halls on our Residence Life website at browzer.co.uk/le.

Support Services
From the moment you get here, there are lots of resources to guide and support you throughout your time with us. You can find out more about support services at the University at le.ac.uk/wellbeing.

Get In Touch
If you need help, contact us anytime 24/7 at your site reception, by email at accommodation@le.ac.uk or by phone on +44 (0)116 252 2428.

SafeZone
SafeZone is a safety app which allows you to alert University Security via your mobile phone if you ever need urgent assistance or first aid, or if you have an emergency while on campus. Find out more at le.ac.uk/safezone.
Residential Advisers
Our Residential Advisers are current students that work with us in accommodation to welcome you, provide peer support and create a student community by organising social events to make sure that you feel at home.

An Award-Winning Service
Our Residence Life service is award-winning, including a national award for the Best Residence Life Initiative, a Residential Adviser of the Year award and being shortlisted for Outstanding Support for Students in the UK Times Higher Education awards.

Making an Application

Register for an accommodation account to make an application. The admissions office will let you know when itā€™s time to apply. Once youā€™ve sent off your application, weā€™ll allocate you to a room.

When you receive your accommodation offer, weā€™ll send you an email to let you know. You can review your offer and decide whether to accept or reject it. Youā€™ll get 3 days to make your decision.

When to apply and when youā€™ll hear back

The allocations team aims to respond to your application within particular timescales depending on your course offer status.

Unconditional Firm

If you have accepted our unconditional offer as your firm choice, you can apply for accommodation when applications open on our online system. We will contact you with details of your accommodation offer as soon as we can, usually within five days. Please be aware this may take longer during busy periods, so please be patient. You can check on the status of your application at any time by logging into your account.

Unconditional Insurance

If you have accepted our unconditional offer as your insurance choice, you can apply for accommodation when applications open on our online system. We will process applications and contact you with the details of your accommodation offer when you're confirmed to be coming to the University of Leicester (i.e. if you don't meet the requirements for your firm choice on results day).

Conditional Firm

If you have accepted our conditional offer as your firm choice, you can apply for accommodation when applications open on our online system. Once you get your results and your place becomes unconditional, we will process applications and contact you with the details of your accommodation offer.

Conditional Insurance

If you have accepted our conditional offer as your insurance choice, you cannot apply for accommodation until you accept our offer. Once your place on the course becomes unconditional, you can apply for accommodation. We will process applications and contact you with details of your accommodation.

Clearing Choice

If you contact us during Clearing, or through UCAS Extra, you can accept your offer of study on UCAS Track. Within 24 hours of doing this, you'll be able to register on the accommodation website and apply for your accommodation. We will contact with you details of your accommodation offer. If you apply before 1 September you are guaranteed an offer of University-managed accommodation.

Registering for an Accommodation Account
Youā€™ll need your student ID number to register for an account. If you donā€™t have one yet, you should wait to receive this from admissions.

Accommodation Pre-payment
When you accept your accommodation offer, youā€™ll need to pay a Ā£250 pre-payment to secure your accommodation. This is deducted from your first fee instalment and is not a deposit.

Changing Your Offer
We will always make you the best offer we can, but if you do wish to change we recommend that you get in touch so we can discuss whatā€™s available. We may even be able to change your offer without any need for you to reject and reapply.
Accommodation Welcome
In August weā€™ll open the Accommodation Welcome - your online induction where you can find out all you need to know about living in halls. You can access it through the Accommodation portal and weā€™ll contact you to remind you.

Arriving in Halls
Once youā€™ve chosen your arrival slot youā€™ll receive a check-in document by email. This has details of your booking and arrival information, such as parking locations and addresses. Youā€™ll get lots more information about arriving in halls in your Accommodation Welcome.
